Attendance Numbers and Final Budget

Attendance Numbers

The 2015 event felt smaller to some people even though we had more participants than last year.  I think that is due to moving most of the action into the larger less crowded room in Game Kastle.

Since I don’t require people to register it is hard to get exact attendance numbers.

Based on the number of unique raffle tickets filled out we had:

260+ Unique participants

36 Designers

24 VIP Players

6 Sponsors

1 Major Sponsor

30% increase in participation from 2014

I’m quite happy with those numbers.

Final Budget and Financial Transparency

All the bills are paid. Here are the final budget numbers.

Other than the space rental from Game Kastle, the largest single expense was Togos sandwiches on Saturday.  More than one person shared positive feedback about having Togos.  Was it worth the expense?

Greetings,

Chris Castagnetto maintains a Facebook group related to the event.  You can use it to stay in touch, tell folks when games go on sale, share feedback and share resources.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/boardgamebuilders/

My thanks to Chris for managing and maintaining the group.

Brian Henk was kind enough to film the two panels of the event and put them online.

There are a few more updates coming in the near future:

1. Final budget and attendance numbers.

2. Top 5 things that worked well and Top 5 things that can be better next time.

3. A downloadable spreadsheet with all the contact info shared in the previous update. If anybody wants to take the time to build the spreadsheet and send it to me, I will be eternally grateful . . .

EDIT: Corrected Kickstarter video link.

How can players and designers contact you?

Game Design Contest teams hard at work on Sunday.

Game Design Contest teams hard at work on Sunday.

Greetings,

I've received several requests from players and designers asking:

"How can I contact the guy that had the [name] game? I want to be on his mailing list."

"How can I contact so and so? I though of more feedback for his game."

"How can I contact the designer of [game] so I could be a remote tester for that game?"

I'm going to ask all the designers to drop a comment below or email me with the following information so that I can make a public directory on BoardGameBuilders.com and as a Kickstarter update. This is optional, and opt in, you are not obligated to participate.

Information needed:

  • Designer Name
  • Games tested at Protospiel SJ 2015
  • Preferred Contact Method

I will use myself as an example below.

Name:

Jeremy Commandeur

Games tested at Protospiel San Jose 2015:

  • Booze Barons
  • Bandit Brag
  • Globetrotters
  • Insider Trading
  • Secret Society

Parking Update

The Earthquake’s new stadium is just down the street from Game Kastle.  In the recent weeks when a game has happened, some parking overflowed into the parking lots of local businesses.  Because of that, some of the local businesses are very sensitive about parking.

The best advice I have received on where to park is to use the street parking on Brokaw road.  Not all of the street is zoned for parking, but there is plenty of street parking.  Read the signs and you should be fine.  Thank you!
